If someone's looking to buy a Toyota Corolla, I'd say this is excellent advice.

Get a Honda Civic, and you won't be stuck with an outdated slab-sided car that looks like a minivan hacked into a sedan shape, and you won't have to go through the exceedingly shitty Toyota dealership routine. (at least, every Toyota dealership my family has ever dealt with in Central Florida and Eastern PA, every single one treated us like utter shit and wasted our time whilst accomplishing nothing)

#4, They've got a redesign... that rounds it off in all the wrong ways, so a quirky, fugly little van-like thing becomes an ackward, even fuglier, scary-looking hunk of crap.

#5, The survey on their website currently shows a 62% disapproval rate for the redesign.

#4, Oh, she loves the car, but the Toyota dealership screwed her over on the trade-in value of her MPV, they screwed her over on the financing rate, they screwed her over on the service plan, they screwed her over on everything else. She just doesn't see it.

All in all, I think she overpaid by about 5 or 6 thousand dollars.

The thing is, the xB was neat looking in a way, and I loved the xA's styling... like a shrunken Matrix with excellent proportions...

But the new xB and the xD... they look the same and both look boring.

#9, Why do you think my other sister has an '05 Accord rather than a Camry? :D

After an entire day of trying every Toyota dealership (my sister was looking to replace her '94 Camry with a new Camry)... and all of them making my sister and mom wait and wait and wait and not giving them the time of day... they walked into a Honda dealership and were immediately greeted by a friendly salesman who found them an options package my sister loved and could afford, and they were in and out of the dealership in a matter of a couple of hours with a brand new Accord and an awesomely low lease.

[edit] ... in terms of my sister that got the xB... from the time we first arrived at the dealership until my sister had her car and we could leave. 7 hours. SEVEN FUCKING HOURS. Mind you, she knew exactly what she wanted, had researched it, and had *ALREADY* test-driven an xB at a previous dealership to make sure it's what she wanted.

Crap, ran out of room... but anyway, with Toyota dealerships... it seems like they have the attitude of, "Well, if you don't buy our car, don't worry, in an hour another person will come in and buy it, so we really don't give a shit."

In addition to my oldest sister having an Accord rather than a Camry, it's the same reason my father has a Volkswagen Cabrio rather than a Solara convertible. ...and why my mom has a Tracker rather than a RAV4.

My sister with the xB was the only one frankly stubborn enough to get THE car that she absolutely wanted, no matter how crappy the dealership treated her, and no matter how much she overpaid.

#11, That isn't unreasonable, if that is the car she wanted (god knows why) then that is the car she needed to buy.

I was ignored at a couple crappy used car lots, but I was only there to look at something anyway. Both the ford lots I looked at (one has a ford lot about 30 miles south and a used car lot here that is almost exclusively ford so they count) had salesmen on me almost immediately, like halfway to the car I want to look at immediately. Negotiation wasn't too bad, there were a couple times that I just told them I didn't believe a word they were saying about their cost invested and I threatened to walk a couple times and then it's sign here and enjoy your car.

Shopping for a used car when the Mirage died... mostly nice dealers that appeared to be quite helpful... except for Family Auto Mart... once they heard we weren't going to pay a cent over $3000 for a car (plus tax/tag/title of course), they pretty much ran us off the lot.

Though, the first place we went, an independent lot which mainly deals with used Hondas (but not actually affiliated with any Honda dealer)... it was a bit annoying dealing with them so we left... but maybe it's good since their cars were overpriced and underwhelming anyway.

It's funny... at the lot we eventually DID buy the G20 from, we were seriously considering a black '97 Nissan Sentra that looked pretty decent... they were asking $3200 (maybe we could have wiggled them down to the 3k mark)...

...right before the guy went to get the keys for a test-drive, I noticed the G20 sitting in the far corner and *jokingly* asked him what the price of it was (An Infiniti in my price-range? Shyeah... right.) ...when he said $3000 even, I asked to test-drive it first, before the Sentra... the rest, as they say, is history.

The independent used ford place fucking threw car keys at me even though I expressly told the guy I wasn't buying a mustang unless it said gt on the side(he never did find me one either). It's amazing I bought one at all after an afternoon with a v6 automatic convertible. :v

#15, My father wouldn't either, but he really had no choice... he needed a cheap, roomy convertible.

The Solara looked the best, but after months and months of trying to get a test-drive in one or even to try to have a salesman talk with him to no avail, he gave up on Toyota.
The Cadavalier and Sunfire convertibles were out of production.
He hated the styling of the Camaro.
He also hate the styling of the V6 Firebird, but liked the front bumper on the Trans Am... but a big V8 RWD car wouldn't be good for winter driving... (and I don't want to hear anything from any "Oh driving a RWD on icy snow is easy" people, ok? No, it is NOT easy to drive on icy snow with a powerful RWD car, some people just refuse to admit that in an elitist way.)
...and the Mustang convertible was too tight a fit (my father is a big BIG guy.)

The Cabrio was the only choice left at the time in terms of a cheap, roomy convertible. I actually drove it from Lansdale, PA to Lancaster, PA on the Turnpike, and found it to be a pretty fun car to drive, other than the monsterous blindspots, which is unavoidable in a convertible, I guess.

#16, He never considered a Sebring? Could have gotten an ex-rental car pretty cheap.

#17, Oh right. I remember, he did test-drive a Sebring. Hated it. (Rather surprising since we've always been kinda a pro-Mopar family... hell, he has a '97 Chrysler LHS)

[edit] ...and while we're at it, the Eclipse convertible was too small, too.

lol I agree x2. I drove the Torino (351 cid V8) on fresh early snow, on medium worn out all-season tires, and it was fucking scary.

But the Cabrio... ? Ok I drove a New Beetle (driving must be similar to a Beetle conv./Cabrio) and it was OK, not more. I just didn't like the feeling of driving a mostly girl's/gay's car, even if my ex gf and ex mother-in-law were with me. Why did your dad NEEDED a convertible ?

#18, My grandpa had a Sebring convertible ('nuff said :P)
But seriously, his was a nice car, it just ... uh... was slow as molasses (with the V6!) and flexed like mad. I think it topped out at 68mph on an uphill grade.
