#4, Nice no-parking sign :-P
#7, I guess technically I have two of the same Volvo too. But one is a turbo, one isn't. |

#9, actually it's odd/even parking - from November to April you have to switch sides of the roads so the snow plows can clean up the roads... otherwise its a $10 ticket (whew!)
the '96 is non-turbo - '97 is turbo...
#7 - it was one of those 'It's there' kind of things... and the Caprice had to go (mileage and issues with stumbling). |

mini car review -
overall I'm impressed by the engine. I didn't think I could stand a 2.4L engine, but the small turbo makes a BIG difference. It feels like a large V6 / small V8 with the torque coming down low. High 15s in the quarter ain't a barn burner - but for daily driving I don't feel like I'm missing anything. I rarely spin over 3k for my daily grind driving. Averaging 23mpg city only driving. I'm saving ~$80 a month in gas vs. the Caprice.
Interior is excellent so far - good leather quality and firm seats. I don't slide around toooo much on the corners - but the wife's cloth material definitely holds you in better. There are WAAY too many switches and they seem randomly scattered about. It gives it a 'cockpit' feel some may like, but I prefer something a little more simple. I am digging the sunroof.
Handling / Suspension seems a little sloppier than the wife's base 850. Her handling is TIGHT and the car can really hit the curves with minimal roll. (cont) |

on the other hand, mine rolls a little more and I don't feel as confident with it. I think the GLT may have been tuned for 'luxury' versus the base car? Anyways - they both certainly handle better than my previous two dailies - and I finally get why lots of people really love their Euro-trash cars.
Looks : I get lots of compliments on this car - people assume its way newer than it is... and that I must be rolling in it. But most people around here don't know import cars that well and overall I've noticed that M-B, BMW, Volvo, etc seem to 'age' better as the years go by.
The engine does have a tick that I thought for sure was a bad lifter... but doing some reading and using the 'ol wooden stick to the ear trick, I've figured out its actually an injector. Apparently its a known issue with the 850. I feel plenty safe in this car and it feels solid compared to my old Altima/Stanza/Accord days. I would give this car a solid B+ - to rate higher I would want a wagon and an 'R' model |
