#20, Fine - try this.
When you think of the brand name 'Hummer' - which product from the brand comes to mind first?
~~~
If you've named the model - you've just proved that you can't just call it a Hummer and leave it at that.
The LeMans name doesn't live up to it's predecessor. That makes sense.
The H2 name doesn't live up to it's predecessor because the H2 has no predecessor. The H1 did not begat the H2 as both are in two different segments.
So why would WBMJ say that the H2 doesn't live up to it's name when it's a name without any predecessor? Who's it living up to? What bar was set that the H2 had to reach to and exceed? It wasn't set by the H1 - that's for fuck sure. The H1 was a full-size SUV and the H2 is a large-size SUV (think Tahoe and the like). |
#23, Now if the H2 was named H1 and was used as a the sucessor to the first gen H1 - THEN there would be a name it would have to live up to. We're not talking about the brand here, we're talking about how the Hummer H2 doesn't live up to it's name - a relatively new name in the Hummer brand that has absolutely no history to support it whatsoever; it doesn't have anything to live up to because it has no predecessors. You cannot say it lives up to it's name (H2) when the name has no history to support the name beyond the year 2003.
If you clear on this from the begining - this wouldn't have happened. But no - you had to somehow make the vauge connection between the name 'Hummer' and the model 'H2' as if they were one in the same and interchangeable. When you think Hummer - you think of the brand as a whole in all of it's (bleak) history - not one model individually just because you associate one particular model of the brand as more significant than another.
The LeMans does not live up to the LeMans name.
The H2 does not live up to the Hummer name.
Period. This thread is now over. |
#28, If I said 'of the Hummer brand, which model sucks the most ass?' You wouldn't just blurt out 'The Hummer sucks the most ass!' becasue that isn't specific.
Nobody complained about the LeMans not living up to the Pontiac name - they only said that the first gen LeMans was better (and it was). Who gave a shit about the brand name? |
