Apart from the irony depicted here, I don't understand why some Americans are so vehement about everyone speaking English.
While it's true that some non-native people do come here and have the arrogance to think that everyone should be able to speak French, Spanish, Swahili, or whatever they themselves speak, I also think it's important that everyone keep in mind that no immigrant is going to learn the English language overnight. |

#4, Ditto. Immigrants not learning their new country's language is the first step in creating ghettos, and it goes further from there (remember the riots in France not so long ago?).

#1, In some parts of downtown Montreal, you often get served in english only. I think THAT is pure arrogance. |

#6, In Quebec - I would expect only French. Those serving the public that refuse to do so can fuck off.
Frigg - I thought Quebec (and half of NB) had french language laws as much as thes rest of the country has provincial english language laws. Wasn't there a crack-down on anglophones bullshitters in Quebec years ago?
Take some advice from us - yankees. New immigrants in canada only get served in one of two languages; there isn't a third option. |

A big part of American English is screw ups like this one. Sad as it may be, spelling mistakes, using then instead of than, etc etc are so common that you see it everywhere. Oh yeah, yesterday I saw a PT Cruiser with a sticker on the back window that said "If your going to be a turd, go lay in the yard." YOUR. If I'm going to spell something wrong on my car, I'm gonna do it on purpose, like this: http://www.stillruns.com/stickers/more/5.jpg |

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a picture of it, but recently I saw a Semi-truck on the interstate with 2-color vinyl lettering on the back of the sleeper cab that read, "What a long strang trip it's been" |
