#4, Good question.

Just take a RWD beater with some power, mash the gas, steer hard over, and have fun!

What exactly is the appeal of "drifting"?

#6, It's a way to have fun with small, RWD Japanese cars without actually having to worry about the fact that the car has no torque and can't produce that wonderful feeling of thrusting your back into the seat.

#7, Probably the only way to have fun with a small, RWD Japanese car.

#7, Sounds accurate. All of the ricers and kids on the "import scene" constantly brag about drifting. I guess when you have no real power (torque)...that's all you have to brag about, even if it IS pretty pointless. It's even more hilarious when the kids with Hondas or other wrong-wheel-drive cars go crazy about "mad tyte driftin yo".

It's still fun to watch.

I never saw the appeal in watching it. I'd rather watch a good race instead. (drag, rally, whatever...I'm flexible)

Here's a site I found. http://www.streetracing.org/japan/drift/drift1.htm

#15, Yeah, but it does still require quite a bit of skill, since by definitition it involves driving a car that (generally) only has traction with its front wheels. There is certainly something different about watching somebody drive a car through a corner completely sideways..

#17, Oh, yeah, there's also that. It's always sort of interesting when they're about 6" from each other while doing that stuff. I know my reflexes wouldn't be up to that.
