#40, I seem to recall a certain Pan Am flight that blew up in midair, and a few other little events during the late 70's and throughout the 80's in which terrorists held Americans hostage. Of course, none of the events that I can think of happened on our own soil, but the point remains that a police state is not a solution. Last time I checked, Israel still seemed to have a problem with buildings randomly blowing up.

#40, 09/11/01 was the single most bloody day on American soil since the Civil War. The terrorists' ambitions are greater than ever before, and they are not targeting American soil more than ever. The Pan-Am flight was over Scotland if I recall correctly.

If I'm doing something that looks threatening or "fishy" then I'd deserve it. I have nothing to worry about anyways, so I couldn't care less.

#43, "and they are not targeting American soil more than ever"
I'm going to assume that's a typo, and I don't know about you but I'd be more concerned about people. :P

#49, I dunno; I didn't do it, but I'm going to let it stand. jugg_a_lo posted a whole stream of cliche anti-Republican crap.

Well...serioulsy, we didn't need inflammatory crap like that to intentionally cause flamewars... if jugg_a_lo had JUST posted one, I woulda been ok with it, but it's like his fucking Tatras, he goes insane posting them.

ahem - the patriot act has not allowed anyone to do random search n' seizures, check out library records randomly, or tap anyones phones in-itself. Those provisions already existed with a court order - and still do. None of our rights have been infringed. It has merely strengthened the tools to be used by law enforcement - so (for example) if someone switches phones, you don't need to get another court order. Such laws already existed for investigating the mob, but have merely been extended to include other parties.

So really - what freedoms have you lost recently??

#34, Who's a terrorist, though? How do you determine that?

As for this "we're too free" bullshit, all I have to say is I would rather die a free man in a terrorist attack than to live with Big Brother looking over my shoulder. There are things far more important than safety.

#55, that's pretty easy to determine with some common sense. Visits countries with high terrorist activity, seen with another known terrorist, ties with terrorist organization or front... seems pretty easy to me. I'm sure we can discount about 99.99% of the population. I personally haven't lost any freedoms... have you?

#56, Probably. I already think the government gets too involved in our day to day affairs.
