Ha! Well, some of those I think he's keeping for himself, but he's one of those guys who won't tell you that, comes up with the old tired excuse "The Police impounded that one, can't sell ya anything off it" uh, sure they did, it's been in that SAME SPOT for 20 years!

ive ran into those guys too. Damn i hate that. They want to hang on to a classic, but have no intentions of giving it the much needed resto. bastards.

THere are two types of junkyard owners

1. They'll send you anything, - One of these guys sold me the fender off his tow truck
2. Won't sell you anything, - It's all reserved, impounded, broken, whatever, what's your point then?

Just to get in better favor with our local junkyard, me and a buddy of mine get their rebuildables up running enough for the guy to get a better price for it. He gives us free and cheap parts all the time. I got my olds 425 bigblock for 75 and he threw in the T400 for 25, it doesn't get much better than that.

It's a shame my guy doesn't, there's some real quality stuff in that yard. An old Continental w/ suicide doors, a 50's model Buick Straight-Eight, a couple F-bodies and all the late 70's Mopar sedans you could even want (nothing special, but good for engines, just wont' sell em')

I can get ya a pretty straight suicide continental and a '67 camaro. This is one of the biggest yards I've ever seen,me and my uncle only covered half of it when we went to see it. They've got a bunch of stuff from the 30s and 40s, I'd say the guy has a model T or two back there as well

The Olds 400 big block was a unique engine. Not to be confused with the Olds 403 which was technically a small block. The Olds 400 bb was an oversquare design. Made only in 1968 (the bore diameter was smaller than the stoke length). It used a 455 crank which was a 4 1/8" stoke. The thing had more torque when compared to other V8's this size.

Going way back to #4 and #5... I know exactly where you could find a '72 Convertible... it's a 442 clone though, Supreme originally. My dad's got it sitting in the garage as we speak, it doesn't see the road near as much as it deserves to. Not for sale though... I'll try and get a pic up.

I thought the BOP 400 engine was a small block. Guess not.

BTW, this is a really nice '69.

Is there some strict threshold for size that differentiates SB and BB? I know that it's possible to have a SB with a larger displacement than a BB under some circumstances, but I want to know if there's some specific dimension that makes a BB or SB.

I think the threshold is 351ci.

I believe it has to do with the size of the block itself, but don't quote me on that.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the size of the block itself. I was just wondering what block dimensions make an engine an SB or BB. Guess we'll have to wait 'til one of the 454 guys shows up or something....
