I just got a mental image of, them doing this intentionally, and flying in a mechanic, attached to a helicopter, working on the car during the race... I'm insane.

Heh, this reminds me of some video footage I've seen where the hood did the exact same thing on a rally car going down a very narrow straightaway. >_<

I know a guy that did this on the highway. Broke his windshield and tore up the paint on the roof. Not to mention, he had to get a new hood.

A Bugatti driver in the 30's was decapitated by the hood of his car after it flew off .

#6, This was a buick regal. He checked his oil at a gas station and didn't close the hood tight. He got on the highway and saw it bouncing and rattling. He thought he could make it all the way without it flying up. Obvliously, he was very wrong.

#2, I was thinking of the scene in "cannonball run" where the guys in the stock car have this happen to them, and they drive into a pool....... Yeah, I'm silly

a few years ago at Le Mans a Porsche had its hood fly up, the crazy driver took off his belts and drove a lap ethier hanging out the window or with the door open (don't remeber which)
