I created this photoshop out of my frustration. The Crapi is no more.

Tuesday, it died after startup, wouldn't start again. $150 and a tow later, The repair shop tells me the carburetor was loose, and they had to clean it out. It runs fine. They say I'll be needing a distributor and a ignition module to prevent the no-start situation from happening again...price? Another $300.
Up until yesterday, no problem.
This morning, it died after startup again. I'm not paying another $50 for another tow, and that $300 just to keep this POS, that's worth at most $150, running.

My mom has said she will help me get a new used car, in the $1000-1500 range. Saw a '95 Mitsubishi Mirage Coupe for $1100, looked REALLY promising...it'll probably be my new car. Probably picking it up tonight.

#1, Yikes sorry to hear that DiRF. Been down that road before. I hope you get a car you'll be happy with and that's reliable.

#2, I God Damn hope so. The Kelley Blue Book retail value on the car is about $2000 more than what he's asking, and the "Private Party" value on the car is $500 more.

The guy also had a '94 Suzuki Swift ($1000), and a '94 Geo Prism ($1400)...both stick, and I can't drive stick. >_<

The car is in GORGEOUS condition, and the engine starts smooth, runs smooth..and it pulls well off the line.

The '95 Mirage is red (uh-oh, cop bait), has working A/C, a CD player, black hubcaps (you know my feelings on black wheels) the only problem with it is the hood looks like it was dented and repaired, but that's the only blemish I could find. Absolutely no lag in the tranny, no hesitation by the engine, and NO BLUE SMOKE (I test drove a '96 Protege he had on the lot, THAT had quite some blue smoke shooting out of the tailpipe.)

#7, Yeah I usually take cars that I'm going to buy to my mechanic. The salesman never seem to mind.

#5, It's not that hard to learn how to drive a manual transmission. Really, if I could learn it, anyone could.

However, the Mirage does sound like it's probably your best bet out of the three. Good luck!

#6, Bah. *shoots stang392*
#7, the guy seems pretty honest...I've dealt with crooked car dealers before. He doesn't advertise, all his business is by word of mouth. He owns a gas station and sells cheap refurbished used cars as a side business.

#11, Even so, never can be too safe. There may be something that he doesn't know about. Most mechanics will do the check for free if you go to them regularly.

#12, Bah, I'll take my chances, Anything's gotta be better than the Crapi. He's [the dealer] in Cocoa Beach, I don't know any mechanics in Cocoa Beach...it's a 15 minute drive to the closest mechanic I know...and I doubt the guy would let me take the car that far.

#13, I still don't think I'm that great at it, but many FWD cars seem to have hydraulic clutches, which actually tends to make them a little easier to drive. In my sister's Escort, you can pretty much put your foot on the gas pedal and dump the clutch.

#5, i would take the prizm myself...we had a black '93, and it was a great car without a single problem until my dad's brother crashed it, that bastard...at 75k miles it was extremely solid, and both the engine and tranny pulled hard and smooth
