I must say it's one of the things Chevy's done (nearly) right in a while.

my freind got one on Friday morning. Lucky fucker. I went with him to get it, and gawd damn. His first car was a 1996 Monte. I wonder how much ins is for a 16 yr old male with 2 speeding tickets?

I do too. I priced one with all the options I want at $27k after rebates. On another note, what was Chevy thinking by putting a 140MPH speedo in a 2.2L 4 cylinder Malibu?

#5, My car, with a tested top speed of 90mph, has a 130mph speedo.

But back on subject, the Monte Carlo does not impress me... it's a posh luxobarge that is really ill-equipped to deal with a V8... and its design still dates back to GM's pre-oh-shit-lets-sort-this-crap-out days of cutting corners everywhere and producing subpar cars... I can't wait until cars like this, the Pontiac Grand Prix, and so on, are out of GM's lineup, and instead are replaced by cars like the Aura and new Holden Commodore... cars that have true honest to goodness quality to them.

but you said earlier you liked the new GPs when they came out. I have seen a few Auras around town and they are nice. You do know that we will be getting the next Astra as an Ion right?

Yes, I know we'll be getting the new Astra as an Ion... I posted a thread about it, that someone fucked up by trying to start a lame rumor about it being the replacement for the Pontiac Vibe... (even though it's a completely different type of vehicle and size class... and the Pontiac Vibe only exists through an agreement with Toyota... no Toyota agreement, no Vibe.)

...and I don't specifically remember saying I liked the new GPs... I may have said something nice about the styling, or the fact that it was getting a V8... but still, it's a very dated design... it looked dated when it first came out... I may have been kind to it because I was still a gritboy when it first came out.

#6, "Luxobarge", mind if I use that? It is quite the excellent term.

#8, yea it was back around 2004, and you accused me of jumping on the bandwagon because LTR decided I didn't really like the styling. And luxobarge is a good term.

#9, I am definitely not the person who coined the term, I know it's been around for years, so I have no position to give rights to use the term... but what the hell, go ahead.

I don't know, but with some of GM's newer designs I'm not seeing much of the lack of quality I've seen with previous generations of Chevy and Pontiac. I read alot of great reviews for Chevy's car lineup (although I don't know how biased the authors were, if at all). And even though the cars aren't perfect, I think they're a step in the right direction, so far anyways. What's wrong with a big, comfortable car? Not every person in the market for a new Monte Carlo or Impala aren't as discriminating as some of us can be and the SS trim might just be right up their alley.

I like a bigger car I can feel safe in. Also, even though I am a car person, I don't necessarily want the fastest thing on earth. I like cars with plain but good styling for my DDs.

#5, The same thing Mitsu was thinking when they put a 170 mph speedo in an Eclipse that was governed to cut back at 108

I hafta agree with Moose Cock's "meh" on this one. As far as I'm concerned, the new GPs are amazing, but it's almost like the V8 in these is a gimmick in an otherwise crappy car.

it looks nice in black, even if the v8 is a ploy, they just need to blackhouse those headlights post haste.
