I was saddened to hear that Ford had killed it off. What are taxi drivers and police departments in the US going to use now? Dodge Chargers? Oh noes...

Uh... it's still in production... and even though there are rumors of it being killed off, Ford has never said anything definitely... so as far as anyone's concerned, it'll stay in production for the near-future.

That said... it really is such an outdated car... it's great as a taxi, but as a police cruiser... ugh. Sure it's got a huge front seat area and an epic-ally huge trunk, but it's on a 30 year old chassis with a woefully underpowered engine.

#3, I should really stop saying things about American cars. I never seem to get accurate facts. Mind you, I was told that by wannabemustangjockey. He has some explaining to do...

But surely it must be better than some of the other possible candidates for a cop car. Come over to England and you'll see what I mean. Ford Focuses, Vauxhall Astras and at one point, Metros. Urgh!

#3, My folks are out of state right now with a Grand Marquis rental car. My dad thought it was actually quite fast - and it returned 28 mpg, too.

Heh, my parents had one of those as a rental when they were up here visiting me.

I guess you might consider it to be fast if you're used to 150 hp four-bangers.

#8, My parents have a supercharged Regal and a GMC pickup with a V8. Those aren't the slowest things out there. :P

I can't say I was terribly impressed. It seemed to have more than adequate torque for daily driving purposes, but I think "fast" would be an enormous stretch.

#10, I dunno, that's just what he told me over the phone. Last Crown Vic I rode in was a taxi and it was slow as molasses because the driver wanted as much money as he could get out of my grandma.

Probably comes down to your definition of fast. My father has a C5, and I've got a little more horsepower than that. I don't think of a car as "quick" until it gets into the 10 lb/hp range. 225 bhp and 275 lb-ft in a 4000-lb car isn't terrible, but it's no thrill machine by that definition. :P

My parents commented that the Grand Marquis seemed pretty thirsty, too. It's apparently rated at 17/25, so I'll give it credit for being more economical than I'm used to. ;)

#14, I guess i'm just cheap, Im plenty happy with my truck's stock 17 lbs per horse stats.
2813 lbs, 160 horse, 230 ft lbs. its enough to get me going quick without any mods whatsoever, and pass people at will.

I've rode in the back of Crown Vics before (taxis wise guy :P) also used to ride to work (50 miles) in a 90s Caprice. Gotta love the expansive rear leather seats and 85 mph half-speedos of big barges.

BENCH SEATS FTW!

Closest thing to a Crown Vic I ever rode in was probably my dad's old 85 Gran Marquis, she stunk of cigar smoke and we called her "Big Red".

Rode in a Crown Vic once. In the backseat. The plastic backseat. With a cage in front of me.

Long story short, back in high school my friend did something very stupid and went to jail, I was not arrested, I was just getting a ride home. But, the cop had to be a complete dick about it.

My parents had a '92 Crown Victoria LX for many years. I helped with an engine swap after the first one crapped out after 190k (the new 4.6 they got was a 1991 Lincoln engine...first year modular, ugh!). Rode with them in it on a trip to North Carolina, two to South Carolina, and a trip to Pennsylvania.

Gutless off the line, but decent midrange power. Rode smoothly. Seats sucked and the backseat was cramped. One problem after another, but most could be attributed to the car's high mileage. Engine was a nightmare to work on, which is a contributing factor for my hatred of 4.6/5.4s now.
