Description:
Alright fine, it's come to this. I need/want a new car, and I know I've been saying that for about 4 years now but I finally....FINALLY have the resources to pull it off and instead of periodically asking if you guys know something about such and such a model I've decided to just start and thread and get some opinions. |

Allow me to outline my parameters:
*Either a mid-size/full-size car or truck.
*I'm looking to spend up to and including $10,000 but I don't want to go over $13,000 if I can avoid it.
*Gas mileage is no huge deal to me as my commute is relatively short and I don't have reason to travel too far outside of town usually.
*I want to stick within the last 10 years if I can...but it's not required.
*Mainly I just want something nice to cruise around in, I probably will buy another, crappier daily driver and this will be my main vehicle.
#2, Don't worry about them |

#4, My brother has a 96 LeSabre and it is a helluva nice machine for the money, a Regal GS wouldn't be out of the question. And the quality of the interior plastic doesn't bother me as long as it holds up to me slamming it with my fist when I get frustrated in traffic :p
#5, I looked at some later model Crown Vics not too long ago, I saw a few old Police models for about $3-4K, they had really high miles (duh) but I think they'd make good daily drivers. |

Check out Jettas and the like. You can get a nice one for 10-12 grand. Also, those caddys are a nightmare to maintain from what I hear. |

#7, Thanks for making the search results close to my area, I'm not going to be heading to Florida anytime soon, heh. The local auction house had some nice older model DTS's I was looking at a while ago...I wouldn't mind picking up a nice luxobarge.
#8, I saw some nice V6 Impalas for about $5K that were GREAT on gas; an Altima would be a good choice too.
#9, I didn't even think about a VW, good suggestion. I'd like a zippy little engine that could last for a long while. |

#3, LS1 F-body. Just be sure to look over it thoroughly....a lot of them have been run a bit hard. |

#11, I'm at a loss here, are you referring to the 8 valve 2.0l failure of humanity or the 1.8 turbo?
Also, don't laugh at me, but are there upper model range V6 Hyundais/Kias available in the US? I expect them to be cheap and they did improve the quality a notch or two in recent years.

#14, There's a guy with a V6 automatic older gen Sonata, I worked/work with him on a couple of events. He's the president of a small automobileclub, the car is decked out, leather included. Yeah, people tend to make fun of both the guy and his car ('presidential limo') but my friend actually rode with him a couple of times in the car and liked it.

#9, I would not recommend any used VW... not reliable at all. A friend of mine, a complete VW nut owns 2 Golfs and a Passat and spends ALL his spare time repairing (not maintaining, repairing) each of them. He's had a lot of Fox, Jettas and Golfs too. Main issues are complicated electrical problems, injection/ignition problems, transmission problems. Just don't buy a used VW.. buy a brand new one with a solid guarantee.
I'd say go with a mid-size/full-size GM but avoid Cadillacs and most Oldsmobiles (they excusively had the 3.5L V6, derrived from Cadillac's Northstar V8, which is a bitch to maintain). Go with and Impala, Regal, LeSabre, Park Avenue, Grand Prix or Bonneville, but avoid the 3.1L or it's twin, the 3.4L. The 3.8L V6 is an extremely reliable engine, I've read tons of positive reviews about it before buying the LeSabre.
If you want to stick with Chrysler, try the 300M, the Concord or the LHS with the 3.5L V6. They have many good reviews.
Or just try a Volvo, you'll love it. |

#19, They made LHS and Concordes in the 2ks too, but they didn't look really different. I kinda liked the Concorde LXi. |
