ahem

i know what 4WD is.
i know what AWD is.

i thought there weren't interchangable. For instance - why are Skylines refered to as 4WD's when i was led to belive they were AWD?

the two are often used interchangably, IIRC 4x4=part time 4wd while AWD=full time all whell drive

4x4 to me is a bubba truck or suv

Doesn't 4wd have all wheels moving no matter what, and AWD can detect a wheel slipping and give more power to it. Kinda like 4wd with a brain.

#5, i don't know that all AWDs are that way, i think thats only the fancy ones. as said before, to me 4WD is an on off system and AWD is all the time no choice.

IIRC most(if not all) all wheel drive systems are either Rear or front wheel biased, why those wheels start to spin power is sent to the other wheels

There is no Focus 4x4, unless you are talking about a WRC rally car. The Focus ST170 (SVT over here) and turbocharged RS are both front wheel drive. Also, that font doesnt quite match.

#8, there isn't a V8 focus either but that doesn't mean they don't exist :)

#1, GTRs arent 4wd or awd. They are an altessa system, as in, tricky computers to controll the front wheels drive. AWD is just a fancy name. Think what the 4x4 stands for... 4 wheels, 4 wheels with drive.

Ford England uses 4x4 interchangeably with AWD. There was a Sierra (our XR4Ti) sold over there called the XR4x4 that was pretty bad ass.
