I don't. This man truly changed his life in prison but some politicians are so anxious to look "tough on crime" that they killed him anyway. Look up the real meaning of the words "penitentiary" or "reformatory" and you'll see what the prison system is SUPPOSED to be about -- these people must think it's just a slaughterhouse.

Its always easy to "find god" and renounce your life of crime after the fact you are sentanced to death. If he wasnt caught for killing those 4 people do you think he would have changed his life anyway?

What does "finding god" change to the fact that he killed 4 people ? But again, what is worst ? Being jailed for life without any chance to ever see the outside ever again, or to ending it right now ?

As for the death penalty, it ain't got no dissuasive effect on criminals, because when they commit their crimes, they're convinced that they won't get caught...

I think that he found god doesn't matter. He killed four people and also founded one of the most violent organizations in modern history. The Crips are still spread and killing thanks to Tookie. Sure you got some people out of the gang life, but you got thousands more into it.

#8, he's not on radio here. 580 CFRA, the voice of ottawa's rightwing (CFRA.COM). It's allow about that liberal minister who said Canadians would spend possible child care grants on "popcorn and beer". That and what the US embassador said. God, I'd rather listen to this Tookie BS.

BTW have the killed Mumia yet?

I'm thankful he tried to make a difference by talking to the bloods, crips and the other gangs to stop. Its good he wrote some realistic straight to the point children's books. Some of these kids either don't know how bad gangs can be or they are really intimidated.

He did kill 4 people plus counless others. There was no way he was going to get free and live. At least he tried to make a difference as opposed to other folks like charles manson who people seem to love.

Mumia is probably not going to be executed anytime soon. Too much support and there is still question on that case.

Ever notice how people get amped up only at items involving the other party.

He was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize. I think that's redemption enough for four murders.

Think about it, if you commit a crime which would be worse? To die or to sit in prison, get anally raped, eat shitty food, and be treated like shit for 50 years? The death penalty is in no way worse punishment than life in prison

On a side note, I think the death penalty falls under cruel and unusual punishment. C'mon, its 2005, its not the Colonial times, we're past KILLING people for punishment.

To me, life in prison would be worse. However, I'm still basically for the death penalty - if for no other reason - because it helps keep down the prison population.

#15, True, but like blackcat said, prison is supposed to be to CHANGE people.

We should also be past killing people for thier shoes or because they wear red or blue clothes but we arent. He had his chance to get off of death row by at least showing a some bit of guilt in what he had done. He didnt so he wasnt granted his clemancy.

#14, I think some people deseve death. Death penalty cases need to be airtight in order to go to trial in my opinion. Personally, I think an honest to goodness life in jail is waaaaaaaay worse for most people. But some offenders love jail. Repeat murderers/multiple murderers should get death. Fuck paying for these assholes to get high and enjoy prison love.

I think Tookie should have been committed to life, but people who say he should have been released should meet some of the gnag member he helped create and the families of the people he killed.

#17, Good point, I don't think I can argue that. Either way, though, I still think the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment.

#18, Not to sound like a bible pusher, but in the good book it says not to kill. I know the whole separation of church and state thing, but the way I see it, nobody deserves death because everyone can be forgiven. Now, not everyone is a Christian, so I can't persuade most people.
