I DRIVE A DODGE STRATUS!

So does this mean it's going to be Daimler Benz again? Yay! I give Chrysler 5 years. Jeep and maybe dodge will survive, and I bet they merge with Ford. Seriously. Watch.

Chrysler is doing relatively well at the moment, at least compared to GM and Ford. They'll probably do okay if they can just get their heads out of their asses and ask the public what they want in a car.

It's pretty simple...keep the trucks and vans as they are, since they're successful. Built at least one compact with quality and style to match, say, the Mazda 3. Release the Challenger. Keep building the Chrysler 300 and its clones. Forget the damn Avenger and build a high-quality, stylish mid-size four door that people will actually want to drive. Shit-can the Pacifica.

#2, I can't walk through SF without tripping over those damn Sebrings and Avengers. Chrysler must be good at suckering the weak-minded into buying their crap.

Mercedes has never been able to play nice with Chrysler, ever since the 98 merger there have been lawsuits and allegations and all sorts of nonsense including Schrempp's retirement two years ago. I'm sure Mercedes will be more than happy to be rid of them. Chrysler's become a pariah of sorts, even Hyundai won't touch them, likewise with Renault-Nissan, and they're losing money too.

#2, Chrysler is not doing well at all. They lost $1.5 Billion last year, which is the main reason for selling. Well that and the approximated $22 Billion they will be paying for pensioners which will only be increasing.

I have been following this pretty closely (I work for Siemens VDO Automotive as an engineer and we do a lot of work for Chrysler) since I was first announced back in Feb that Daimler was considering all options for Chrysler. Ford has not even expressed intrest once. They were a few companies looking at the possibilty. GM and Renault/Nissian both openly admitted to talking with Daimler but I don't think either of them will bother touching it. I see this one going to a private equailty firm that will tear the company apart and sell the pieces.

Chrysler is a money pit plain and simpler. Daimler paid 35 billion for the company in 98 and they are now getting offers ranging from 4 to 8 billion according to reports.
