Description:
Wangan Midnight.

The Anime series just started airing last week, but the manga it's based on started back in 1992 (and is still running, IIRC).

The Anime is produced by many of the same people that make the Initial D anime... and this has a very similar feel. But rather than touge racing, it's high-speed freeway racing. With a bit of "Christine" thrown in for measure.

I'd take the possessed Z-car. I'm already quite familiar with the concept of a car trying to get revenge on its owner and I've just about managed to beat one into submission. :p

Is that a 260? It looks to lean to be the 280 and not thin enough to be the 240

#23, Would be easy to tell, if it was a US car. Bigger bumpers on every consecutive model :P

#24, The reason why I ask is that my dad had a 260 at one point. My dad's car history is really interesting come to think of it. lol

#26, Apparently, yes. The boss cars from that game are based on the manga of Wangen Midnight... another car in this manga/anime is a widebody Porsche 964 Turbo called "BlackBird", and that's apparently in Tokyo Xtreme Racer too.

Just watched the first episode. Not bad. CG style is similar to D's Fourth Stage. Character designs are weird; less angular than in most modern anime, almost Leiji Matsumoto-esque. I assume that they're based on the manga.

Could be fun to watch how it develops.

Watched the episode, here's my two cents.
One, it's a Christine rip.
Two, the dude looks almost exactly like Tak.
Three, the CGI car animation is sweet as hell but the people animation sucks.

I just finished watching the first episode. Horrible rip off storyline. main character is an idiot with a new car and a newfound overconfidence, and the drawn animation is just completely shit.

Just to reiterate... the manga this series is based on DID start in 1992. 3 years prior to Initial D.

So, if you don't like this series, then don't continue watching it. I can see where it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I really like it.

#32, I do like the CGI action in this series. A lot. I could forgive the plotline, too. But the animation of the people is almost nonexistent and what is there is lame.

I think that was a stylistic decision. A lot of production companies try to mimic the look of the original work when they're starting from a manga. Other than the visual style itself, I didn't think the animation was that bad for a regular series.

#35, If you like that CGI, I recommend Initial D Fourth Stage... it's light on plot but heavy on racing sequences.

Actually, if you want to skip the plot all together, just watch Initial D "Battle Stage"... it's pure racing scenes... and "Battle Stage 2" should be fansubbed soon.

I've spoken of it a few times... first car my father ever bought brand new was a dark green 1970 240Z with tan interior. He loved that car. Then some idiot in a boattail Riviera rear-ended the 240Z pretty badly, and the fucker didn't have insurance.
My father was strapped for cash, so he took it to an import specialist who happened to have a 240Z whose front-end was all smashed up... cut both cars in half and took the good half from both and welded them together... it was still never right at all after that.
I think my father only had a mere few months to enjoy that car before the accident :(
