Description:
Wangan Midnight.

The Anime series just started airing last week, but the manga it's based on started back in 1992 (and is still running, IIRC).

The Anime is produced by many of the same people that make the Initial D anime... and this has a very similar feel. But rather than touge racing, it's high-speed freeway racing. With a bit of "Christine" thrown in for measure.

#51, I've seen a fragment of something called Submarine (enter a number here) or something and I was impressed. But, er... it was in German ;)

Since the manga's been running since 1992, I was wondering if Tomica ever put out a Wangan Midnight diecast set...

...they did. In 1999. http://www.cc.rim.or.jp/~kaz/tomika/g/g364.html Even though I know it's probably impossible to acquire a set that old here in America, I still want it :P

#62, The detailing's good on those but the wheels are way too small on most of them. Dunno why Tomica likes putting funky wheels on their cars.

They have a game coming out for PS3:

Made by the same people who made Tokyo Extreme Racer, I think I'll get it. (I like TXR games)

#64, Yeah, I watched a trailer for that game a few days ago... looks amazing.

But I did not know about the TXR group making that game... but that probably explains why Wangan Midnight cars have made appearances in the TXR series.

...and apparently a few live-action movies based on Wangan Midnight have been made...

So there were two different English fansubbers tackling this series, Flomp-ASF and OMFG, and both of them have apparently stopped fansubbing the series after episode 2.... gyawwddammit... why can't a reliable fansub group do this series? :(

[edit] Hell, the Spanish fansubbers are getting their translations of this series out quicker.

#51, Gunsmith Cats, although there were only three episodes. The commonly available dub is also quite well done.

#60, éX-Driver has car chases and action... I have it and like it.

...also, try out Licensed by Royalty... I've only seen the first episode, but it's looks very action oriented with fast cars and the like.

Just finished watching the first episode of this on YouTube. It's a little slow moving, but the premise intrigues me, and the vehicular animation is flawless.

#71, I've still only seen the first two episodes, even though there are 8 now out... some Hong Kong guy is subbing them on YouTube, but I've heard the quality is atrocious... I'm still waiting on OMFG to release his fansubs of eps 3-8... (there will be 24-26 episodes total)

Is OMFG ever going to sub anything after the first two episodes? This is irritating.

#72, The YouTube subs I'm looking at seem more or less okay. Some of the dialogue seems a little stilted and there are occasional typos, but I've watched foreign movies and shows with worse subs.

#73, He's a mod at wmexpressway.net, under the name Nomake Wan... and he keeps telling us he's working on it... but apparently, Japanese is NOT his first language, and he has some difficulties with cultural references sometimes... the only problem, he's the only person with good subtitling ability and good grammar that's tackling the series... I think Flomp-ASF was simply taking his subtitling and reformatting it as their own, which is why they haven't gone past episode 2 with their English subs either (I think they've done some German or Spanish subs or something too)

#74, NM, I just checked, the version I've been watching is the OMFG version.

There's gonna be a mysterious disappearing post or two if attempted threadjacking like that continues.

UPDATE Episode 3 and 4 have been fansubbed into English by HG-Fansubs! (HG stands for Hard Gay, a Japanese pro-wrestler that has a very strange fanbase, but the fansubs are good, I just watched episode 3) The only problem I see is that they keep translating "chassis" as "chases"
