if there were full size cars that werent based on 1970s chassis and had the interior clad in plastic im sure they would sell better. the 300c isnt doing too badly. |

#19, 1) Lincoln has not "eclipsed Cadillac" in sales whatsoever.
September 2007 sales for GM
http://media.gm.com/servlet/Gateway...amp;docid=40014
Cadillac - 20,398 : CYTD - 154,982
September 2007 sales for Ford
http://media.ford.com/article_displ...rticle_id=26906
Lincoln - 9,764 : CYTD - 102,449
Conclusion: Cadillac, despite not making and selling land barges in large numbers that appeal to the ever-diminishing 60+ demographic, continues to outsell Lincoln to this very day.
As for the younger demographic, who you've said find the Buick Roadmaster appealing, even with the abstract "Bling factor"; their numbers are even less than the aforementioned 60+ segment. These people have even less desposable income to spend on cars of that size.
You're becoming too emotionally attached to a by-gone era that won't return until Cadillac is able to restablish itself again. |

#19, (Cont) Cadillac has fallen from its once storied past. Over the last 30 years, Cadillac has become something less associated with luxuary and a reward of personal accomplishment. It was durring this time that BMW, Benz, and then the rise of Lexus that came and overthrew Cadillac with little effort. How? The provided a better product.
The CTS, as much as anyone can complain about it not being like the old Caddy, is perhaps the most important Cadillac since (as you mentioned) 1957 El Dorado Brougham. It's the first car built by Cadillac with an expressed intent to challenging it's rivials; the brands that shot down Cadillac. This new CTS seems to be a result of GM doing somthing right rather fucking it up again. The dash doesn't suck, the 3.6 is compairable, and it doesn't look as bad as the mk1 CTS.
Like I said, it's either this, or floaty old land barges. One of which isn't going to get any future sales and the other is the thing Cadillac hasn't tried in order to stay compeditive. |

Furthermore, I'd like to know how many of those Cadillac sales are of the "land barge" DTS. Or of the decidedly un-sporty Escalade.
#26, BMW, Benz and Lexus are not competitors for Cadillac, nor should they be. |

We can't ignore the demographic between the young "bling" loving segment and the 60+ car buying segment. There are alot of younger and middle-aged high income car buyers to be considered as well. Cadillac, with it's hard-edged styling, copious amounts of chrome, and sporty appeal with the V-series has appealed to this younger segment better than Lincoln ever could. Look at it objectively for a moment; if you were an accountant or lawyer in your mid 20s would you rather have a big flashy car with aggressive styling like a newer STS or a CTS? Or would you rather have a stately rounded off grandpa-car like the Continental? I'll bet most are going to want to go with a car that makes an impression rather than a more reserved automobile. And beyond the land barges Lincoln doesn't really have much in it's lineup save for the Navigator; The LS? A fine car but unmistakably bland. The Zephyr? An unreliable chromey Fusion...no thanks. |

#30, Speaking as a professional in his 20s, I'd definitely the car that makes a statement.
And by that, I mean the car that isn't a vanilla bland Toyota Camry clone with indistinguishable bodywork and the same boring tan-colored leather bucket interior as every other "sports sedan." |

#32, You're not the only one, hell I saw two newer Continentals at Costco today, both driven by octogenarians. |

#27, DTS September 2007 sales
http://media.gm.com/servlet/Gateway...amp;docid=40014
DTS - 4,776 : CYTD - 38,144
Town Car September 2007 sales
http://media.ford.com/article_displ...rticle_id=26906
Town Car 611 : CYTD - 25,580
When coupled with the Mercury Grand Marquis:
Grand Marquis September 2007 sales
http://media.ford.com/article_displ...rticle_id=26906
Grand Marquis - 2,737 : CYTD - 38,280
CYTD sales of all Panther cars - 63,860
63,860 > 38,144
Mind you, that's from both Panther cars. If I include both the DTS and the Lucerne...
64,451 + 38,144 = 102,595 GM Land barges.
102,595 > 63,860
In total, 63,860 + 102595 = 166,455 land barge sales in the US in 2007 to date from 2 US automakers.
Either way, it's not sustainable for either of the 4 mentioned brands over the long term. The numbers are shrinking every year. |

#27, (Cont) Now for the Escalade sales.
Escade 2007 September 2007 sales (Excluding EXT and ESV)
http://media.gm.com/servlet/Gateway...amp;docid=40014
Escalade - 3,505 : CYTD - 27,278
Navigator September 2007 sales
http://media.ford.com/article_displ...rticle_id=26906
Navigator - 1,964 : CYTD - 17,729
27,278 > 17,829
It's still working out for Lincoln or any of it's land barges.
As for comparing BMW, Benz, or Lexus to Cadillac, then, what would you think Cadillac should be compaired to, becuase you seem to think they shouldn't be compairable.

#39, Why do you have to compare them to anything?
How about those Crown Victorias?
