#5, Try telling the hoards of vapid "forward-thinking go-getters" that make up this write-off of a decade. So fucking lost about how to operate a car - they need a satnav to point out things of intrest because they couldn't be assed to remember them themselves!

"I'll take mine in iPod white...and does it come with a backup camera? I'm useless as tits on a bull when it comes to putting a car in reverse and looking into mirrors - I'm going to need a camera to make up for my lack of skill and talent - but as long as you call it 'sophisticated technology' it'll make me look cool in front of my friends who I have to spend a lifetime impressing because I have nothing else going on in my life worth mentioning.

I got a new Chihuahua! Wanna see?!?"

If I could just put my hands around the throat of this decade...

I would never get something like a navigation system in a car. If I had to get it, I just wouldn't use it. Unlike some, I can read a goddamn map. I sure as hell don't need some annoying voice interrupting my solace.

#7, I have a friend who wants to get me a Garmin nav system for my birthday. I don't really want it because I generally do my homework before I take a trip. I check Google Maps and actually find my own route and write it down and then go. I can generally make sense of a standard paper map if need be, as well. I'm frequently the navigator on road trips if I'm not the one driving.

My dad intentionally set his Garmin to British because he likes the accent better.

#6, I can fully understand that someone is not skilled in something (for example, I'd sooner take a shit through my ear than I'd grasp even basic maths) but these days, theres a trend to embrace people being TOTALLY FUCKING USELESS or TOTALLY FUCKING STUPID. To me, the symbol of this era are plastic bags with 'put it on your head = die' warnings... WELL NO FUCKING SHIT?! If you can't be arsed to think or put some effort into daily activities (such as driving a car or using plastic bags) you really should rethink WHAT THE FUCK is wrong with you. But no, these days such people are shown on TV as 'victims' and/or being paid huge sums of insurance money instead of being ridiculed or told by the insurance company to simply fuck off.

The thing is, maps can only tell you so much... and some areas, the maps can go out of date very quickly.

GPS devices are great for areas you're not familiar with, and they can be very specific on how to navigate some complicated intersections and junctions.

But some people do use a GPS way too much than they really need to.

I just mapquest everything, but when I'm on the road I usually have a pretty good sense of direction. Except for the one time I got lost in downtown Detroit and took the wrong exit to the freeway and wound up practically in Lansing.

#16, Agreed, the same friend who wants to give me a Garmin relies very heavily on his own (he's only lived in the US since July '08 and he'd never been up to my area before). He needed gas and started typing in "gas" as a destination, and I informed him that there was a gas station right next door to where we were parked. :P
