#40, I loved the Impalas that used that chassis. So nice. Anyway, when I bought a car last time, I got the Mustang just because it was RWD or nothing and I wanted a 5-speed. They were still selling Camaros and Firebirds at the time, but the base package for the Mustang had more power accessories and wheels (instead of steelies with wheelcovers).
I don't actually hate GM, despite the fact I've only driven Fords. Heck, I test drove a Grand Am once and actually liked it (except for the FWD bit). However, GM America has really made some serious mistakes in the last 10 years which really reduce the odds I'll ever have a reason to buy from them. |

The rust rule is anal, but it keeps the cars looking less beateriffic around here, 99% of the time they fail you it's either rust or brakes |

Here its, displacement to weight of the car. But turbos, blowers have a mutiple attacted. Rotors are I think double the displacement to get a more realistic reading. Then you have ride hight. Lights, seatbelts (but you dont need seatbelts if the car didnt come stock with them) Basically they check everything they can, which at the end of the day works out to be a fair bit. |

I don't think it's too strict here. As I've said a few times, I think we've even given up on testing emissions because most of the cars that would fail are exempt anyway, and half the traffic on our roads consists of tourists who don't even have to have their cars licensed in the state in the first place. On the upside, it means that as soon as a) I have money again and b) my warranty expires (2 more years), I'll probably supercharge or something. |

They don't even look at your engine here, unless it's leaking,(or you live in an area that smog-tests) they could care less if it's a 2.2 Turbo 4 cyl or a blown 502, they are more interrested in chassis/structural soundess and safety parts like lights and belts
We had some visiting Germans here once, they were amazed you could legaly swap engines and stuff, apparently, in Germany, if you replace any part w/ one that is not a stock replacement, you can't get insurance coverage, if I understood how they described it |

It's sort of surprising that the restrictions in Germany are that strict, though. |

#37, In texas, on a car that emissions don't matter on, (meaning anything made before 1976 down here) the requirements are:
-No rust holes.
-The lights work.
-seatbelts if original equiptment.
-registered and insured
-it goes backwards AND forwards.
that's it. |

if emissions matter, it has to have a cat. aside from that, it doesn't matter. the testing computers don't like non-factory engines, but the mechanics that do the inspection will just lie anyway, they don't care. |
