#21, I knew that was coming, but I was expecting Bling24 was going to point that out and ask that we please leave Ludacris out of any future discussions in favor of defaming some other guy. |

#20, you do realize the industry is trying to sell cars, right? but anyway, I know a few toyota people and they live up to the reliability standards so far(around 8-10 years anyway) granted they all have v6s. I have no problem with people saying those, as well as the 6s for honda etc., are reliable. Chances are fairly good that they are. However, I'm talking about the ones with 4s from that time period that get the same reliability credit. Example: 2 hondas, around the same year, same problems. One prelude one accord. The accord had engine mounts replaced a while back...and might have to do the same thing again, or replace the timing chain because his car vibrates way too much for its own good. The prelude wasn't bad until about 2 months ago when the radiator cracked or something like that. Personally, i'd never want a 4...and i'm barely getting around to accepting that i'll have to get a 6 sometime in the future. So theres my rant. |

#25, Well, I had a 80 Tercel with 375,000 miles which I beat the living piss out of with no problems. Had an 89 as well, again a total beater, again totally reliable. In fact, my family has had many high mileage 4 cylinder Toyotas with absolutely no reliability problems. |

#25, V6's are fine and dandy.
Sure it's a massive downgrade in preformance - but some of the right ones power are plenty powerful for what they are (i'm thinking of the rolling graveyard of Cutlass's and Cutlass Ciera's around my area that seems to defy reliabliity issues and keep on moving. Even if the heater is fucked and the driver can't see shit our of the window - they still move somehow). |

and that early 80s corrolla i helped to hack up still runs fine even after sitting with no hood for over a year and being ran as a 1, 2, 3, and 4 cylinder (my friend likes doing stupid stuff like that) |

Even right now, I run a 89 mr2 with 175k miles on the original (heavily modified) motor, which is maintained religiously I will admit, but gets daily thrashings to 8500 rpm, not to mention regular SCCA autocrossing and canyon carving. |

#31, once again, i have no problem with toyotas...because i don't have any experience with any model of them other than the 6. Honda's however...not so good. |

#31, i'd try to hold onto it and hope for it to be a classic.
affordable mid-engined cars are no more. |

#32, Well, me neither. Its just that I ahve first hand experience with Toyotas, and Hondas happen to be rated just as high. Guess you can't trust everything you read. I do know, however that Hondas are RIDICULOUSLY expensive to maintain, on a par with BMWs and other (much nicer) European machinery. |

I personaly don't care how dependable the vehicles other people end up with, the only one's that matter to me are the ones me and my family and friends end up with.
this experiance has been mostly with GMs and Fords, and this has ended up as Ford>GM. My grandfather is retired from GM so he's always leaned that way and as thus most of the vehicles he owned were obviously GMs, my father was the same way. I was a Ford fan mainly because of Bigfoot, and all the vehicles I can recall my grandmother getting were Fords. the turning point for my father was (I believe) an '88 silvarado with the "dude where's my paint" paint job >_<, the turning point for my grandfather was a eary-mid 90's silvarado with a dump bed (he's a grave digger) what a massive piece that was and it only lasted a couple years in the "fleet". my grandpa currently has a f-350 w/dumpbed that he's had for a long time and my grandma has a (2002?) f-250 powerstroke and they both put alot of miles on the odometer |

Interestingly, every single car I've owned so far has been a Ford. More disturbingly, every one of those has been a 3.8L. Not ever exciting, but I've never had one of them actually break down on me in such a way that I couldn't at least limp home (I'm referring mainly to the T-bird there). |

Just like everyone else's family, mine has stayed with a brand. My mom got an 85 Accord way back when I was born, and my dad had a VW Beetle. The beetle crapped out on him. My dad had a Ranger a ways back (somewhere between 88-90 i think) and it broke on him, so we got a Mercury Villager(I dont know why...). My mom got tired of the 85 (we had a bit more money back then) and got a 92 Accord in late 91/early 92. Then when my dad moved out in 98, he traded in the minivan for a 98 Accord sonce the 92 hadnt given us problems. My stepmom has a 98 CR-V (but I just dont like the CR-V anyway) My stepbrother has a stock 92 Civic hatchback that has upwards of 150k miles on it and its still runnin fine. No major repairs yet, just little things. So I inherited the 92 Accord and my mom got an 02 Civic. Naturally the 02's fine and dandy right now. |

#39, My 92 Accord, as wonderfully described in #25 does vibrate quite a bit every once in a while at a stoplight or something. Its had a couple engine mounts replaced, probably another one soon. Im not sure about the timing chain/belt or whatever. Right now I just need to up the idle somehow. Its idling at about 5-700 rpm right now, part of the vibration problem. But the damn Japanese engineering doesnt allow me to just turn a screw ot twist a knob somewhere, the idle is probably set in the cpu or something like that. Im becoming less of a fan of Japanese automotives now that Im having to deal with the engines personally. They make it so Average Joe Nobody cant work on the engine cuz its too confusing, too many damn wires and electronics everywhere. The thing is, most Honda owners arent car people. My family sure as hell isnt. Itd probably be different if my parents werent forced to sell their first cars. (70 Camaro and a 66 Mustang) *sigh* I wish they still had em... |
