Nah, but it's not really worth doing right now. I might gut the cats later, though.

#122, Means it's making around as much power at the crank as a 4.6, too. I managed to find some info on removing the intake manifold, and some tips on porting that; sounds like a good way to spend a weekend sometime when I'm home. :-)

And then, I'm going to build it into a clone of 18654!

On second thought, no.

#127, I still think that, if I ever find out who owns that thing, I should make sure to drive over him repeatedly.

Gaaaahhh!!

I'm having an exhaust shop put take-offs from a GT on it. They originally thought they'd be able to bend the tips down or do something similar, but now they're telling me that they're going to have to leave them pointed straight back. Dangit.

Just got it back, but haven't driven it much so far. The straight-out installation (they couldn't do turndowns) doesn't look as bad as I expected--they kept it nice and tight with the rear bumper. Sounds pretty nice, as far as I'm concerned--quiet at idle, but it rumbles a little when you step on it. Since it's just a factory take-off from a GT, and I had them install it with straight pipes (no H-pipe) it doesn't have that loss of low-end torque that would come from a total loss of backpressure. So, I'm happy for now. :-)

That's something I miss about having an OBD-II car. With the proper piece of electronics, you could have straight pipes, but as far as the computer was concerned it was meeting emissions requirements. Which is nice in Houston, because for OBD-II cars they don't even sniff the tailpipe, they just plug the inspection station into the computer.

#135, I've still got cats--I just had 'em chop the Y-pipe out and some extra straight tubing was required. Still, it wouldn't be hard to just gut 'em or put straight tubes there, get a pair of MIL eliminators or reprogram the computer...

There's a company that makes O2 sensors that fake the signal of a clean engine, but I can't remember who it was. That way you don't have the Check Engine light, and your engine computer thinks it's legal. I've also seen dummy cats, too.

#138, I've never used em, but a few of the turbo maniacs I used to hang with loved them to death. With turbocharged motors, it's basically impossible to have too little backpressure. I just got myself a europe-spec racing cat, in a 4" size, with the appropriate piping to go to and from the 3" exhaust pipe.

Only in europe would most of the racing series require catalytic converters. Gotta love em for that, though, they flow like nothing.
