Well, I now apparently have a new car (I won't have possession for a few more days), and it's something other than the Thunderbird. Parents called me this morning and told me that they had rethought the idea of buying the 'Bird, on the basis that it was priced too far over the amount it was likely to go for in private sale, or as a trade-in, so if I decided to sell the car at a later date, I would doubtless be S.O.L..

So, Dad went shopping the 6-banger Mustangs, and cut a deal on a light grey 2003 "pony package" V6. This car will have a better stereo, 16" 5-spoke wheels (not the tri-star V6 rims), the "horse stampede" sticker on the rocker panels, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and GT-style hood.

Can't say it's what I would've done if I had been there, but he got it for $4K less than MSRP, so that's good. On the downside, I'm going to be stuck paying off a loan for a while longer than I already was.

#301, I should be taking possession sometime next week, or perhaps early in the week after that (they're in Ponte Vedra with the car, and I'm in Orlando). I anticipate that I'll probably have the exhaust swapped shortly thereafter, but don't know what else I am going to do with it.

#303, Would've rather gone without another loan payment. Definitely wouldn't have bothered with an appearance package, but really, for what is being paid (around 15K), the added wheels and slightly improved stereo at least offer somewhat of a return on the extra 1-2K.

#306, I didn't think they were that bad. A little small, yes, but not bad. 16" is about right, though..

Light grey? Kinda like silver? Hey, I think it'll look pretty nice actually. Grey/Silver is my second favorite color for a car, first is black.

#308, Same color (more or less) as my Thunderbird was, I am told.

At least it's not white or yellow--pretty much any color besides those two is fine with me.

I'm sort of looking forward to getting it; it'll be fun to drive, like the last one. My only real complaint regarding the car itself is that I'm going to have to break it in, and I'm going to have to take it easy on the car during that period. Also, the factory shifter assembly isn't the best; I think I might go looking for an aftermarket one.

Just for perspective, the '01 only had 11K miles on it when it was destroyed. The gas mileage and whatnot was just beginning to improve.

Also, the 16" wheels come with slightly wider tires; I'm wondering how that affects the car's ability to get traction. The other one had to be launched pretty softly, or I'd wind up spinning one wheel, which isn't much fun.

Sounds cool. Silver is definitely the best color for late model Mustangs, and you're getting the 5 spokes too.
