Description:
The RSX. The name is an abbreviation for "Really SuX". Man, these things are ugly, looks like a Toyota Echo from this view almost. |

CAFE laws enacted in the early 70s have increased the number of compact cars... the increase of smaller cars has increased the number of traffic deaths... how many? Estimates put the deaths at 50,000 - all to save a bit more gasoline.
All of my cars I drive weigh over 3300pds w/o driver - why? Bigger is better! More room to haul people and baby stuff. More luggage space, better ride on our cruddy michigan roads. I still get 29mpg with my buick on the highway... from a 'lowtech' 3.8L pushrod v6 engine... I only spin about
1600 rpm on the highway...!
Do we still live in the 60s? I think we look at that era with fond memories, when you could walk into a dealership and pick up a great car for low $$$... powerful engine, great design, and rubber ripping torque... I love my 80s monte carlo because it feels so much like my old '68 firebird... though it has been updated a bit more (power windows and a better suspension).
whew...I'm done. |

#43, i would say that the CAFE laws you speak of could be atribuited to the poor high speed handling of front wheel drive car.
btw - practally runing idle speeds on the highway rule! I never expected to run at 1500 rpm's while moving at 100kph! |

The Type-S can reach mid-low 14's with minor bolt-ons and a good driver. Not bad cars but you can go a lot faster for less money, but not everyone wants to do that. |

#43, that's one of the reasons SUVs have become so popular (not reffering to the bigger is better remark) If I had to choose between a minivan, a wagon and an SUV, I'd take the SUV why? RWD and a V8 (with a couple of AWD wagon exceptions :) ) |

#47, That's still comparing apples and oranges, one is a high strung 4-cyclinder sport compact, the other is a supercharger V8 sport truck. If we wanna talk about cheap speed then I could take a good condition 90-92 DSM AWD, put about $1000 into it and be running high 12's all day long. Or even better(but more expensive) you could get a 03 Cobra, do a full exhaust, intake, chip and a new pulley, about $1000 in stuff. That combo has proven to take the cars from 390 flywheel to 450 RWHP and high 11's, pretty impressive as well. I guess what I'm getting at is the RSX is probably a fun commuters car, decent gas mileage and pretty quick, just b/c we all know you can go faster for less money doesn't mean that's everyone’s goal. |
