AFI is a punk band. Very anti-establishment is all I know. CRX, whats the whole story of them? I just like their songs...as songs, they're very talented artists. As far as political statements...I rarely listen to the lyrics.

I'm kind of in the middle on the whole religion debate. Frankly, the words "under God" in the pledge never really bothered me that much. I always felt that it represented a simple idea that I agreed with--that as individuals, and preferably as a whole society, we should strive to serve something better than ourselves.

I think that the main difference between religions is sort of a cross between the "differing eyewitness accounts" phenomenon and a game of "telephone". Everybody seems to have started out with a similar idea, and the difference in major religions arises from slight differences magnified over time.

The reason I say I'm "in the middle" is because I do not go to church/synagogue/a mosque/whatever, but that I believe that my actions on this planet should serve some higher good. I just don't believe that I can accomplish this by sitting in a room once a week. So long as other people consistently act in a considerate way, it's fine with me.

Good on ya, Lemming. That's kind of where I am. I'm not terribly sure whether or not there's a God, but I believe in doing good for good's sake. I try to be tolerant of others, I haven't killed anyone lately, and I think I'm doing pretty well.

I have an idea for the aussie-oregon bridge. It'll start in tillamook county, oregon, and operate with the cover of exporting goods to the east, using aus. as a jumping point. Aussies will be sent such fine goods as Tillamook Milk Products (divine cheeses, yogurts, ice creams), berries well suited to oregon- strawberries and marionberries, hermiston watermelons, and oregon's beautiful christmas trees. The trucks will leave full, empty their loads, and pick up a few select vehicles unavailable here. Bam, thats the plan.

I like it. So, where's the capital going to come from to fund this little operation?

Haven't read all the comments here yet, but here's my two cents: In this day and age (and I was in high school fairly recently; anyone still there wanna back me up?) saying the Pledge of Allegiance IS voluntary. Students who do not wish to participate have the option of sitting silently while the others recite the Pledge. So this liberal fuckwit's daughter wasn't being forced to do something that was against her beliefs; she was forced to HEAR something that maybe she didn't like. McMunkee's right, this ruling, if it stands, will only further America's current tide of "Fuck everyone else, I have been inconvenienced, so bow and scrape and cater to ME for I am more important than the majority and I know best" legislation.

true, I'll be a senior next year. I've actually seen teachers chew out kids for not standing up and saying the pledge, and other students judge against the kids who do not choose to say it, and the teachers are usually not going to stop that. In the bible belt, the students chastising the "offender" is out of hand, as skid said. So therefore this is state-sponsored violation of constitutional rights. It could be reinstated, either with those words but direct instruction of the staff to allow people to choose what they want, and to defend kids who do, or they could just take out those two words and it'd be constitutional. If they did option A, there would be a lot of red-tape involved, and it wouldnt be worth it.

(a bit off topic) I never understand why some people think calling someone a liberal is insulting. They're just sides. It's like calling someone Methodist and expecting them to be insulted. Doesn't make sense.

THANK YOU MAX!!!!! It's great to finally hear someone with some reason speaking here. I was listening to Rush Limbaugh today at lunch and this woman called and started literally SCREAMING and it sounded like actually crying because her daughter was corrupted for life because she had to be in a school classroom that said the pledge. These kind of people are so ridiculous...the things that corrupted her daughter was her whacko mother with no morals or pride in the country.

Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot. No offence to you, munkee, but he is. Not so much his politics, those are just a bit more extreme than usual, but the man literally makes up "facts."

Liberals have a whole different way of thinking and honestly...they are most of the problems with the "whacko's" out there.
