"Borrowed Time", a short film not officially made by Pixar, but by a few of their animators as a side project... NOT a kid's film.

An incredibly silly chase-themed Australian short film from about 20 years ago. Lots of VH Valiant Regal and A70 Lancer abuse here.

A show that lasted only two episodes... the pilot, and the apology for the pilot. The apology is actually an amazing 30 minutes of television.

#1504, "I mean, if this had been a hospital....."

That always gets me.

#1505, Gleason actually lost sponsorship over that "apology" episode... he made a crack about the coffee being "Chock Full o' Booze", which his then sponsor "Chock Full o' Nuts" didn't find terribly humorous. They dumped him shortly thereafter.

Interesting, though, how that failed show turned into a moderately successful mid-season replacement talk show, based solely on Gleason's ability to sit at a desk, talk, and crack a few jokes. The epitome of taking lemons and making lemonade.

#1507, For his era, in the realm of television variety/entertainment, he really was, arguably, The Great One.

#1508, You don't appreciate just how BAD the average TV personality is these days until you realize that even armed with an army of "smart" writers and backed by "smart" executives, they can't hold a candle to a guy who can just sit in a chair and wing it. Even the decline from Letterman to today is staggering in just how unfunny the modern comedian really and truly is.

#1509, I still go back to old Carson monologues... the way he could salvage a line of jokes that bombed was incredible.

#1510, You can tell if you watch Jay Leno's garage that there's something about those who have the entertainer genes, they can instantly get and keep your attention no matter what they're talking about.... while the current crop of them are just mouthpieces for equally unfunny writers and political opinionists out to make sure everyone knows they're right and you are wrong. Nobody laughs at a modern comedian, they CLAP, that should NEVER happen.

#1511, Or in the case of Lilly Singh, they don't really do either.

NBC has been sending us operations notes about shows we can air in her place if they decide to suddenly cancel her. That's how dire her ratings are. If they weren't terrified of being called racist and/or sexist and/or homophobic she'd probably already be out on her ass.

Waddya mean nobody wants to listen to that?

In the 2014-15 TV season, both Craig Ferguson and David Letterman ended their runs on late night television... they both went out with AMAZING musical performances.

LLSwCF https://youtu.be/iGdzxDsOgYs
LSwDL https://youtu.be/vUKOtbVnV4M

Ferguson singing isn't that surprising, because he was actually in a punk band in the '80s... one of his bandmates at the time? Former Doctor Who Peter Capaldi.

#1512, Apparently, and unexpectedly, they actually renewed her...despite continually dropping ratings. So probably another season of relative uncertainty.

Have to admit I lost touch with South Park years ago... but, holy crap, with very little context, this clip actually got me welling up. Imagine if Trey Parker ever decided to tackle an actual dramatic production.
https://youtu.be/LIteRy3hhrE

The song is, apparently, from Black Hawk Down... I never got around to watching it. Heard it's extremely depressing, but very well done.

#1511, Speaking of Jay Leno's Garage, I am really enjoying his "Pandemic-Edition" videos on the YT version of that show.

...some of his YT videos get a bit tedious... he's looking at an interesting vehicle (that's not his), and many times he's stuck with some marketing person more interested in promoting the vehicle than talking with Jay, or sometimes a person familiar with the mechanical/engineering aspect of the car, but has no discernible sense of humor... and in those cases Jay's attempts to "shoot the shit" with the person fall flat.

The "Pandemic" videos with Jay, a tripod-camera and one of his personal vehicles... it's so much fun to experience the enthusiasm he has for his cars. He truly buys what interests him, not what he thinks is "collectible"... only recent video that was a tad "meh" was the Johnny Carson Chrysler. It's fairly obvious he only owns that car out of a sense of obligation, not because he's particularly passionate about it.

#1517, Surprisingly I haven't watched many of his videos. I got a wild hare and decided to watch a few about a week ago. The 1951 Hudson Hornet episode was a good example of what you're talking about. The car was great, and Jay was clearly into it, but the guy riding with him, while knowledgeable, had all of the camera presence of a wet paper towel.

The owner of the Lamborghini 350 GT was pretty dull, too, but it was funny to see how nervous he was about Jay driving his car, especially every time he goosed it a little on straightaways.

#1518, Of his recent Pandemic videos, I'd recommend two right now:

1938 Tatra T87 https://youtu.be/c2XyLgv-UQY (Just a fascinating car)
1949 Citroƫn Traction Avant https://youtu.be/jld1E50Xw8k (It's obvious how much he adores the car... even though it's not one of the more "collectible" ones.)
