#1380, I remember seeing that when that happened. Officers arrogant enough to think that they ARE the law tend not to last too long. Unfortunately, they sometimes get someone else killed in the process. |

#1389, Yep, a huge soft spot, first car for pretty much everyone over 30. I'd say that it was THE CAR for something like 20+ years, the only thing that was affordable-ish. I guess you could call it Polish Ford T.
My dad picked his up in 1978 and sold it in 1995-ish IIRC. Lost of memories, including two DIY rebuilds from bare shell up in our little garage (the thing liked to disintegrate every 10 years or so). Getting one wasn't easy, first you had to make payments up front and only then you could pick one up... when you got lucky in the state car lottery. The day my dad 'won' there were only yellow ones, a color which both my dad and my mum hated. And then you had to know the right people to buy spares, and then during the martial state you needed gas rations... (bad) old times. |

#1390, That being said, the majority of owners were young back then, so it automatically makes everything better. Dad always tells me I will never know how does it feel to suddenly be able to go ANYWHERE. Before the 126p my dad owned two motorcycles, used 125cc WSK when he was in the navy and new 175cc WSK when he left the military IIRC. The upgrade to something with a roof that enabled you to make donuts in the snow and could take you on a vacation to Hungary or a trip to Czechoslovakia was amazing. Until this very day I do not know how they managed to seat 3 adults (mom, dad, aunt), 1 baby (my sister), take tents, camping equipment and some other random crap for a 3-week trip into this insect. Back then, roof racks* actually served a purpose.
* Come to think of it, I think the roof rack is still in the garage. |

#1392, We are not that special, really, save for the fact that my grand-grand-mother was German and my father's family suddenly found themselves in Belarus after II WW (blame the Yalta conference for that). My parents were also involved in Solidarity movement, but nothing hardcore. Although my dad's uncle did fight under general Anders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W%C5%8...5%82aw_Anders), came back to Poland and was deported to a work camp in Siberia. He never spoke of that period of his life, save for a story when his timber tractor threw a track in wolf infested woods... it's the same all over the world, a lot of stories die with the people who know them. |

#1397, I'm still trying to figure out HOW he lit himself up from stem-to-stern like that..... considering that famous airborne 3rd gen Trans Am that split itself in two on that overpass last year didn't catch fire...
And way to go mr announcer, chasing a Mustang.... yeah.... |
