As a current collector of GreenLight 1:64s, I find the following video slightly troubling. But far more fascinating.

I've decided to a do a series of car-related videos on YouTube, in the form of automotive history lessons and spotter's guides. My first one is a spotter's guide for C1 Corvettes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRUjVC5OAhw

Obviously, I need to work on my dry presentation a little, but I at least hope these videos will be informative.

#1522, Fucking hell... so many people have fantastic voices for narration. Whereas I have a doofy bass voice with a lisp.

Suffice to say, I liked the video. Informative, and you captured a good pace/tone with your narration.

Take the worst episode of Star Trek Voyager, then reimagine it in the style of the laughable '70s animated Trek series... and the result is... well, subjectively, magical.

On another note, I am absolutely hooked on Lower Decks. First episode is available for free viewing:

The characters may seem a bit grating at first, but they develop so well as the series progresses, and the second season REALLY hit a nice stride.

This footage is a true time capsule... essentially seeing the immediate aftermath of a serious earthquake in real-time (barring a 15 minute gap when the network went dark with no power, before the generators kicked-in)

#1526, Similarly, here's an uninterrupted nearly six hours just from ABC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6AHYPn1xlM

As a broadcast MCO, the moments after the slate come up are interesting. Clearly ABC just left the slate up and gave no instructions to local affiliates, so the MCO clearly ran a local commercial break as filler, probably while cueing up a backup program on tape (in this case, an episode of Roseanne). After coming back to the slate momentarily, he presumably just said "fuck it" and jumped into the episode as continued filler while waiting for word from ABC.

After a few minutes, apparently the station's local news team jumped in (this apparently being an LA-area station with a local team covering the game in San Francisco). Finally, after about 15 minutes (presumably with little advance communication from ABC network), ABC finally jumps in with network coverage for all affiliates.

#1527, The chaos of the moment (and sheer number of affiliates) makes this somewhat understandable, but working for all of the major networks today, ABC is probably still the absolute worst about advance notice of cut-ins. Fox is pretty bad about it, too: They have a habit of just suddenly ending breaking news coverage and leaving stations sitting in color bars.

CBS and NBC are quite a bit better about keeping us informed. CBS, in particular, has a dedicated printer which prints out multiple copies of instructions for discrepancies.

The fact that it happened just past 5p local time, on a weekday, could have been an absolute enormous scale disaster with the bridge and freeways collapsing, but it was fortunate that many, many people in the area were staying put, either at home, or at work (or bars/restaurants near work with televisions) to watch the World Series.

I mean, what are the odds, it wasn't just the fact that it was the World Series, but the two teams of the Bay Area. Streets that should have been jammed with cars were almost empty.

Attention. For tonight's performance of Legend of Zelda, the role of Link will be played by Beavis.

#1530, I've had that video in my favorites for about a year now. The dubbing is on-point, and of course anything that references Sealab 2021 automatically wins.

#1531, I love them having the reflection in the mirror actually be Beavis.

Also, I love the King being portrayed by Butt-head... and Ganondorf being referred to as an asswipe is worth a viewing all on its own.

Replica of a Cugnot steam tractor in motion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3p55J-VA5k

As much as I've read about them over the years, and as many pictures as I've seen, I've never actually seen one functioning before.

#1535, I am deeply amused by it having a modern license plate.

The first few minutes I was like, "Is that it?"...but then he had completed his turn, cleared the spectators and was free to "open her up." Fantastic. :D

Also reminds me of the early days of the world-wide web, my father generally used "Cugnot" as on online pseudonym. Being an engineer and an automotive enthusiast (particularly of French cars), and having a French last name (despite being predominantly of Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry) it suited him.

#1537, I've been on a deep sea life kick lately, and there are some legitimately terrifying things in the ocean. And so much we still don't know about at all.

#1382, Over a decade later, the guy responsible did a follow up that's over an hour long....and it's actually pretty funny and clever.
