#765, space-age? i tend to think of the new styling as akin to a finely creased tuxedo
and the CTS-V is a muscle car.. a luxury muscle car.. heck it has the Corvette's LS2 under the hood
and in actuality it's not that loud.. obviously they've added an aftermarket exhaust or something to that drift car |

I prefer to simply think of the new Cadillac styling as ugly and garish. At least they've finally got a couple RWD models again, though. |

I can understand trying to go for a more youthful image. I'm assuming that they're probably trying to target the younger yuppie sort of audience that is buying Audis and BMWs and such. Unfortunately, it appears that they've also adopted BMW's practice of having insane asylum escapees design their cars in the dark. I've almost gotten used to the CTS, but the rest of their lineup still strikes me as just...blech.

I was, for lack of a better word, shocked by the CTS when it first appeared. I for one like it very much, but I'd still rather have an Audi A6. (who wouldn't) IMHO I think it's awesome that Cadillac has adopted a new fast paced image. I mean look at these specs:
2006 Cadillac CTS-V Performance & Efficiency Standard Features
- 5,665 cc 5.7 liters V 8 front engine with 99 mm bore, 92 mm stroke, 10.5 compression ratio, overhead valve and two valves per cylinder LS6
- Premium unleaded fuel 91
- Multi-point injection fuel system
- 16.9 gallon main premium unleaded fuel tank
- Power: 298 kW , 400 HP SAE @ 6,000 rpm; 395 ft lb , 536 Nm @ 4,800 rpm
If you told me in mid 2002 that Cadillac was putting out a car with these specs, I would've called you a liar and punched you in the throat!

It's nice that they can do that now, but the downside is that they've sort of de-emphasized all the work they put into making the Northstar family of powerplants, which were supposed to be powerful and refined, with a smoother idle than the LS* engines (although, admittedly, the LS-family engines aren't rough). |

#773, I know what you're saying, fast specs or not Cadillac will never have the sports car image of the Chevy Corvette or the Dodge Viper, no matter how fast a quarter mile time the XLR-V might pull. Everytime you, me or anyone else hears the word Cadillac we think of big shiny land yacht rolling down the street, not a hyper tuned muscle machine tearing up the track. I like the styling and speed of the new Caddies, but if I'm gonna sit my ass down on leather and fire up an LS2, I'd rather be in a Vette. |

BMW and Mercedes both have insane performance machines.. luxury and performance.. there is certainly a market.. GM is just trying to break into that market dominated by the EuroLuxury
